Summary | 0001037: My sounds in the tavern are gone
Description | Seems that there are a few that are experincing the same problem, so I'm not sure if it has already been reported, but I can't seem to find a report, so I'm sorry if this is a double post. For about the past two weeks or so, my notification sounds have been gone in the tavern. Messages, people entering or leaving, people buying stuff etc. seems that only whispering works now and then, and occationaly when someone leaves. I did check that I had sound turned on, and it is turned up to 100%, and all the checkboxes are checked on for the different notifications. It does seem that if I refreshes the page, my sound returns, but only for the first message, whisper, someone enter etc. and then it is all gone again. I don't know if it could have had anything to do with the down time we had some time back from the hosting sites' side.

No changed have been done on the back end. My bet is that it probably has to do with a browser change handling the old flash portions. The system should do html5 sounds when flash isn't working though. What browser are you using? |
I'm using google chrome as my standard browser. |
I've tested in Chrome 63 and it worked. However, Chrome 64 appears to have an issue with the sounds. Going into the Chrome Browser forums I have found that other users with Chrome 64 up subversion 140 have reported issues with sounds playing properly on some websites. Since the code didn't change and the update of Chrome started rolling out in the same time period as was reported, it's likely this is just a Chrome issue. Will have to check Edge and Firefox. (Opera is a Chromium project and may soon fail as well). |
Version 64.0.3282.140 (Official Build) (32-bit) seems to work fine, as does IE (ugh) Version: 11.0.9600.18816 |
Firefox 58 is unaffected. Opera 50.0 is unaffected. So, it's been narrowed down to some installations of Chrome. Having tested a few different builds of Chrome, I did find a version of Chrome that had an issue with the sounds as described by the player. In that installation, I found that Ad Block Plus (an extension) was causing the sounds not to replay. When I disabled this, the sounds worked perfectly fine. So, it appears that this issue is probably connected to an extension that is being overly zealous. Will contact the player to provide additional information. |
