Chapter 4
After a few minutes, Fue opened his eyes. He had passed out at her question. It had totally surprised him. She held his head up. "Are you okay, Fue," she asked. Fue nodded. "Good," she said with a loving smile. "That was my answer," he informed her. She smiled and hugged him. The ring was handed over to Fue who stood up and put it on his finger. "Today, I am not a rich man in monetary value, but I am rich because I am loved," Fue said to the whole pub. "Drinks for all on my tab," he said raising his hand up in the air. "I love you," he told her holding her close. "I love you too," she said crying.
The whole pub broke out in songs of joy. This day would be remembered in the annuls of Puria History for years to come. It was one of the most happy and carefree days they would ever share. The town would spend the night partying for the two engaged. No expense would be spared. After all, it wasn't everyday that out of the ashes of pain one would rise to such highs. The wedding day was quickly set and her family was all in attendance. Some asked who would sit on his side. After all, his family... well, they were not able to make it. Everyone who was biologically related couldn't come. It was out of their hands.
That's when Tom came up with an idea. He decided to ask the whole council and their families to sit on Fue's side. At the actual wedding, no one knew how many people would show up. It appeared as if the whole town showed up. They had to keep adding chairs to the area. The beautfiul outdoor place was buzzing with activity and people. Fue was very surprised to see just how many people showed up and how many people considered them very close to him. He saw the people who tried to raise him. He saw the whole council and their relatives sit on his side. A tear ran down his face. He knew the town loved him. He also knew that his soon to be wife loved him even more.
She had never been jealous. She had never thought of classes and ranks. All she saw was people and their hearts. No one could judge a person's heart better than her. He knew it and he loved that about her. He felt so complete near her and was glad he arrived at this day. This day was a day he would never forget. It was a day of joy like he had never experienced in his whole life.
The minutes quickly passed and he soon watched as time slowed down. He waited at the alter for her. Tom stood by his side and soon the procession started. He wondered how slow time could go... he never knew until that moment. It seemed like forever for all the people before his lovely bride to march down the aisle. Maybe it was because it ended up being such a big aisle. It was sometimes hard to see all the way back. Fue smiled as he watched each person take a slow and patient step forward. It reminded him of a poem he had read one time in a book somewhere about marriage. His joy and anxiousness increased with every passing second.
Finally, the bride must make her appearance. The guests stood up and watched her walk down the aisle. Fue stared at her seeing her radiant beauty and wondering how he ever got to be so lucky. He saw her brother, her sister, and her parents crying tears of joy. He saw the town marvelling at her vivaciousness. He knew he was the luckiest man alive. He knew he loved her. He could see in her eyes how much she loved him. It was a day she had planned for a while. He could tell that now. He never could have dreamed such a great day would come for him.
There he was having the best lady in town inching her way towards him. Could life be any better for him? A million thoughts ran through his head. He hoped that he could be what she needed and what she deserved. He wanted to provide her with everything her heart desired. He wanted to show her that he would love her all the days of his life. He realized that he never wanted this moment of joy to ever pass.
She stepped up to him and smiled. They both turned and faced a cleric. "Ladies and gentle of the town of Puria, today, I have been asked to join these two individuals in holy matrimony," the cleric told the crowd. Fue looked over at his bride. He went into auto-pilot with what he had to say and focused on how lucky he truly was. It was an accident they met. It was an accident that forced them together. Truly, luck had finally favored him.
He smiled as he told everyone that he would honor her through all his days. He knew he would do his best. They held hands as the cleric grinned and said, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." She leaned in to him and they locked in a passionate kiss that made tears come to the ladies in the audience. After the moment passed, they walked arm in arm down the aisle and towards their reception.
Dancing, drinking, and general merryment filled the reception and the new family was excited. It was their first day as husband and wife and they glowed like newlyweds. They had fun teasing the crowds and dancing and what not. Fue de Joie thanked everyone for coming and thanked everyone for being able to share this moment with them. "This day is truly a day that we will never forget. I will never be the same. This day will affect me and make us stronger. I hope that we will come together to celebrate with the whole town many, many anniversaries," Fue told the crowd. "Amen to that," the crowd replied.
Tom stood up and raised his glass. "To happiness forever more. Let not anything come between you and her and nothing between Puria and you two," he said with a smile. The crowd applauded and drank a little from their glass. Tom gave Fue's wife a little kiss on the cheek. "You take good care of him, okay," he whispered to her. "You know I will," she whispered back. He walked over to Fue and nudged him in the ribs. "You know... some guys have all the luck," he told Fue. "In this area, I do...," Fue commented. "Take good care of her, Fue. She's a keeper," Tom told him. "I know. I'll always try and look out for her best interest," he told Tom.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I present the newlyweds to you as they leave tonight to start their new life together," Tom told the crowd making a path for them to leave by. Fue and his new wife walked down the path and away. The crowd wept with joy seeing the new couple leave in the gentle breeze of the sunset.
