The Age of Glory (Part II)

Chapter 2

Angela smiled feeling the cool air in the garden. She started feeling so at home here. It was nice to be free. It was nice to feel so alive. There was something afire in her heart. It was something that most people seemed to forget - joy. She loved the garden. It brought her much joy. The plants seemed to respond to her as well. Her joy seemed to flow into whomever passed by.

Some days she would sit in the garden and water the plants. Some days she would have water fights with the children. Some days she would just sit and admire the view. The animals seemed to even share her playful attitude. Since the animals were getting more exercise through the play, the food got better. The cook was able to make more tender and delicious food. All were impressed with the better quality of food that just happened to show up.

All around her, it seemed that the world was not such a bad place. She seemed to be unaware of the pain that surround most of the hearts in the cold world. Her presence seemed to lighten the mood with almost everyone. But even her cheer could not infect Fue de Joie's heart. Fue de Joie would try to avoid her as if she was a plague. Angela didn't notice not seem to care.

Fue de Joie came into Jon's room. "Do you see her, Jon," Fue asked. "See who, Fue," Jon responded. "That Angela. All she seems to do is play in the Garden. Doesn't she know what's happening all around her? Doesn't she understand the pain and suffering? Doesn't she understand what she is supposed to be doing," Fue erupted. "Fue, you've got to realize that we have to wait for the right moment. She's just tasted her first air of freedom in years. We can't expect her to be ready yet for her future. We all know what it is... but... we have to wait," Jon told him.

Fue de Joie sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Jon, I've been waiting and waiting. If we wait too much longer, there won't be any point to wait. We've got to strike when the iron is hot. We can't always just keep waiting. Sometimes I wonder if we are ever doing to do anything," Fue told him. Jon stood up and poured a glass of water. "We will. But we can't rush her. She has to be ready. If we do it all too fast, we'll get whiplash. We must work slowly and patiently. I know it hard when so many bad things happen around us. We shall one day bring back an 'Age of Glory'. One day we shall sit around the palace and look back on these days and be glad we've moved on. One day, we shall be free too. But until then, we have a job to do. We are the one and only Secfenia Central Guard. It's our job to protect Secfenia as best we can. It's our job to protect the legitimate ruler of Secfenia. We both know who she is. We both know that we promised from day one when we became part of the Guard that we would do this to our death no matter how long or short it takes. Hang in there, man. It will come. Hopefully soon, but we have to make sure not to rush anything. Our plans are slowly moving forward. I know I can count on you," Jon said with a smile. Fue de Joie nodded and left the room.

Jon sighed. "I know it can be frustrating for him. He's been through so much. Unfortunately, we have to wait. I hope he can. He forgets sometimes how delicate of a situation we are in. We don't know if we'll always have this much protection. And then there's the issue of the fact that Angela doesn't realize yet what people expect her to be. They expect her to rule. I don't know if she'll be ready for that. I don't even know how to discuss that with her. It's not like I can go up to her and say 'Hi, you're expected to rule millions of people... ready?'," Jon said to himself. Jon sat back down and looked towards a picture he had up in the room. It showed a young man dressed in all red eating a green apple. Jon sometimes stared into the picture to relax his mind. He had many a question about the picture. He didn't know who it was or anything, but it just reminded that sometimes there are bigger pictures that make the small picture seem unimportant, but that doesn't mean the smaller picture is any less important for someone.

Jon sighed and stood up. He went out into the garden and watched Angela playing hide and seek with the children. He smiled and his heart flowed with joy. It was good to see smiles on the children again. It had been a while since they had fun with an adult. "Come to think of it, it's been a long time since I've played with the kids," he said to himself.

One of the kids accidentaly ran into Jon and looked down and apologized. Her smile disappeared expecting to be punished. Jon smiled and comforted her, "It's ok. Go and hide while you still can." The young girl smiled and ran off. He knew they had been missing something. He never realized how hard the adults hearts had become in these dark times. Sometimes it takes a child to awaken an adult. Sometimes it takes an adult to awaken a child to awaken the adults.
