Chapter 2
Delia arrived home to see her family asking her about her sex life. Then again, the last time they had seen her she was trying to be a reformed whore, so to speak. But Delia had found someone who respected her and loved her, someone who she had originally tried to seduce, and was going to try in the future to seduce as well.
"Mom, I didnt have sex with anyone," Delia said.
"What happened?" Delias mom said.
"I fell in love with a Bravian boy who was, um, unexperienced," Delia said. "He had never even kissed before meeting me. He was sweet and loved me for who I was, even after knowing about my past."
"Wow, you are very fortunate," Delias mom said. "What are you going to do during break, though, when all the old boys come around."
"Ill just tell them that I am in love with a Bravian, which would turn them away. They will think I am somehow tainted and will not want me after that," Delia said.
"So, how did the semester go for you?" Delias mother said.
"It went pretty well, though it didnt seem like too many people were friendly," Delia said.
"Did you know anyone going into the class?" Delias mother asked.
"There were some famous names, like the Longberts and the Bravias, who I became friends with, but there was no one I had known well before. The Purian nobility was not well represented, at least not the city nobility. There might have been some rural nobility from Puria, but I did not know them," Delia answered.
"Do you want to come to the social with us right now?" Delias mother said.
"Sure, why not. I will get bored anyway, might as well make the family look good," Delia said.
"Going to the imperial school was good for you, having improved your purity and your obedience," Delias mother said.
"I do not know about that," Delia said.
A servant walked in at this time, dressed in black and white. She was bearing some sort of message in her hand and was very prim and proper. The house was a wealthy and opulent one, and all of the servants knew their places. Indeed, had the Sanchez parents had their way their daughter would know her place too.
"Baroness Sanchez, the Thomases are ready to receive us now. Are you ready to go?" the servant said politely.
"Yes, we will be going shortly. Make sure the personal carrier is ready so that we arrive in style," Baroness Sanchez said.
"Yes, maam," the servant said as she walked out of the room so that her back did not have to face the baroness.
"One more question before we go, Delia," Baroness Sanchez said.
"Go ahead," Delia answered.
"Who is your Bravian boyfriend?" Baroness Sanchez asked.
"He is named Daniel Miller," Delia answered.
"Is he a titled noble?" Baroness Sanchez asked.
"I do not believe so. He seemed like a commoner to me, but a bright and kind one. He is first in our class so far," Delia answered.
"Well, he is an ambitious young man then, which is not bad. I would like to meet him at the end of break, to see if he is an acceptable boyfriend for you," Baroness Sanchez said.
"Mom, you hassle me about finding a nice boyfriend and now you want to see if the nicest man I have ever met is good enough for me? Will you make up your mind?" Delia asked.
"Well, I just want to meet him anyway," Baroness Sanchez said.
"Alright, suit yourself. He will come in on the Tuesday taxi," Delia said.
"The Tuesday taxi?" Baroness Sanchez said. "The third class shuttle to the capital?"
"Yes, that one," Delia said.
"I hope hes a nice guy, because I figure he isnt rich," Baroness Sanchez said.
"Well, you can meet him and ask him about his money situation. It is not something I have asked him," Delia said.
The two of them then walked into the personal carrier and went off to the Thomas residence. Once they got there they got out, in elegant dresses, and went off to the dinner party. As Baroness Sanchez had been widowed several years before, she had only her daughter to accompany her on these society visits, and normally she did not like to. Baroness Sanchez wondered what was wrong, but as long as Delia did good things, it did not matter.
"And who do we have here?" Duke Chris Thomas asked.
"This is my daughter, Delia," Duchess Sanchez replied.
"The last time I saw you, you were some little girl with puffy hair," Duke Thomas joked.
"Times have changed," Delia said smiling.
"Indeed they have," Duke Thomas replied. "Would you two like to come in and sit at the table? We are about to begin."
"Sure, we would love to," Baroness Sanchez replied.
The Baroness and her daughter walked inside where many of the nobility of the city of Puria were sitting at the long table. There were not many young people, but Delia got to sit next to Duke Thomas, who was one of the highest ranking nobles in the province, and a nice guy as well. She was not disappointed. At the other side of her was Sir Shiva.
"Well, what is your name, miss?" Sir Shiva asked.
"My name is Delia Sanchez," she answered.
"How old are you now?" Sir Shiva asked.
"I am fourteen years old now. I turn fifteen next March," Delia replied.
"For as beautiful as you are, I would have thought you were even older," Sir Shiva said winking.
"Thank you," Delia said, blushing.
"Sir Shiva, will you ever stop trying to flirt with the young ladies. Shes too young even for you," Duke Thomas said.
"Well, some handsome young man will see your beauty and treat you well. I just want you not to settle for less than someone good," Sir Shiva said.
"I have a boyfriend at the Imperial School," Delia said, smiling.
"Well, at least he is ambitious," Baroness Sanchez said.
"That means he must be a commoner. No one else needs to be ambitious," Duke Thomas said.
"That is nothing. An ambitious commoner, if he is loyal to the empire, and bright enough to be in the Imperial School, must be bright enough to achieve success in life. It is better for a bright young woman like you to marry someone who is bright and ambitious and will find success on his own skill than to marry some shiftless noble who is trying to cash in on his name. If both heart and head agree on a guy, it is a good choice," Sir Shiva said.
"Thanks for the advice," Delia said.
"You are very welcome. I never like to see young ladies suffer because they make poor choices in love," Sir Shiva said. "Alas, they never chose me."
"There is still time," Baroness Sanchez said. "Some young widow might see you as a wonderful bride."
"Like you?" Sir Shiva asked.
"I am not a young widow," she replied. "Thank you for the flattery, though."
"You are very welcome," Sir Shiva replied.
And so the nobles ate dinner. The dinner was a multi-course affair, with exotic salads, quail and pheasant for dinner, and multiple desserts. Everyone was full by the time it was over, too full to do anything but sit back in their chairs until it was time to waddle off to their personal carriers.
"You did very well tonight," Baroness Sanchez said.
"I feel tired now, so I will go off to sleep," Delia said.
"Alright," Baroness Sanchez said.
The rest of break was not exciting, as Delia spent most of her time bored in the household. Strangely enough, no guys came over to flirt with her. She supposed they had found other girls to screw. At the end of the break, after thinking about Daniel the whole time, Delia and her mother went in a personal carrier off to the capital city, where they were going to meet Daniel. Delia hoped that her mom would like him.
