Bonfire (Part II)

Chapter 4

Fue stood in front of the heap of gathered Imperial relics and grinned. "Today, my fellow Purians, we send a message. We will no longer be ruled by the oppresive regime of the Empire. Today, we show our independance," Fue said pouring gasoline all over the pile. "Today, we show that we are simply just not going to take it anymore," he said throwing a match onto the pile. The pile began to burn brightly. Fue starred at the bonfire and laughed.

The crowd applauded at the sight with the smell of carcoaled remains. The light from the bonfire set a eery tone. The winds of the time wafted around the fire seeming to encourage and even play with it a little. The shouts of joy seemed to make the bonfire want to dance with them. Around and around the people danced partying while they did. That day and night was a fiesta of an unusual sense. Everyone seemed to try to throw all the old worries and cares into the fire. All problems were lifted into its flames.

Some even took some of their money and other items and threw it into the fire. They marveled at how the fire seemed to lick it and swallow it whole. As the night went through, the fire never at any time gave in to the pressure of going away. Instead, it only expanded over the course of the night. It was a monster that people kept feeding left and right. The smell of its smoke intoxicated the people closest to it.

Their fiesta was interrupted by a group of soldiers who came into the town village. Upon their arrival, the flag they carried with them was grabbed away and throw into the fire. The soldiers stared in horror watching it slowly burn. The people stared at the soldiers as they took out their swords.

"I don't think you want to fight today. If you do, then today might not last much longer for you," Fue told them with the light of the bonfire in his face. The light upon his face showed the anger he had towards what they represented. The soldiers looked around and noticed that look on everyone's face.

"This is the property of the Star Empire. You will either surrender to the Empire or face death. What is your choice," the soldiers said in unison. Fue looked over the crowd and noticed the desire to fight. The simple pure desire to keep what was theirs. "I warn you again. If you try us, you will be the only one facing death," Fue cautioned them.

The soldiers were also fighting for what they believed in. They plunged forward against the people expecting an easy victory. However, what they found were that these people fought well. Too well for their comfort. Many soldiers of the Star Empire fell that day. Their bodies were thrown into the fire causing the flames to sparkle. The few that had survived fled from Puria with much haste. Their reports would lead to great despair in the Animal Empire.

The same thing that brought on despair in the Animal Empire brought on extreme jubilance. Puria threw parties that lasted around the clock. The wine was constantly flowing through the people from dawn to dawn. They occasionally stopped to devour some food. They had broken off their chains of burden. Puria, in high joy and praise, chose Fue to be their new mayor. Fue declared the day to be a Purian Festival for all time. "To Victory," he said to the crowd at the end of one night of partying. They all applauded. Fue headed to bed with his wife in arms. their hearts were filled with pride and love. They planned on where they would go next when they had time.

Fue would in the next few days get one such small voyage. He would get to visit the capital city of Fenia again to be congratulated for the success in Puria. All around Secfenia news reports were coming in of the failure of the Animal Empire of reclaiming "their" territory. Fue and many representatives ate and drank at lavish banquets. Their joy was even there for the Bravians who had as well stopped the Animal Empire. Rumor had it that the Bravians had even captured several high ranking military personnel in the Bravia River assault.

Throughout all the land the people rejoiced at their new freedom. The weather seemed to mimic their mood and there was not a cloud in the sky anywhere in Secfenia. The bright sun gave a nice glow upon the land. A gentle breeze kept it from getting too hot. The weather like the moment was perfect.
