Maute Nuela (Part I)

Chapter 1

Memories, dreams, and hopes were all being organized and rearranged into proper areas. It was rougher than Robert cared to admit. After all, when one has to rebuild the foundation of memories, it can be difficult. The walls of one's reality have to be braced for whatever changes might occur. The good news for him was that parts of the foundation were solid. He knew that it could be rebuilt.

Grinning, he sat up and looked over at April. She was a very talented and beautiful young lady. He knew fromt he first time he relaid eyes on her that she knew him and that they had a strong connection. He was pleasantly surprised to learn some more of the details. The more time they spent together the more he remembered.

It was humorous some of the things that would pop into memory at times. He would sitnext to her and an old memory of them being together would flash through his mind. How often had he dreamed of spending time together? How often had he found his mind wandering towards thoughts of her?

Today was no different. His mind had thought of her quite a bit. He was very happy to have a chance to spend time with her. After all, he never knew when he would get that opportunity. His heart begged for it as often as possible. Today was a good day for it.

The sky above was clear. A gentle breeze teasing them. The termpature was perfect. Right now to him, life was perfect. He was very appreciative of this moment in time. Robert gently put his hand on top o fhers and smiled.

"Honey, I love you," he told her. She grinned and replied, "I love you, too." Together they sat with warmth in their hearts. The world around them could not destroy the happiness that they shared. Their feelings had multiplied or dare I say exponentialized. They had been reunited after such a bad bit of time.

It was difficult for both of them. Robert had the comfort of not knowing. If anyone ever tells you that ignorance is bliss, Robert would deny that passionately. After all, when one is ignorant about your memories, what are you then? Or better asked who are you then? Are we our memories?

April, however, had her memories intact. She had watched in horror as she saw her love slowly fall into sleep. She held his hand and cried feeling his body start to grow cold. he had always been warm and to feel his temperature drop caused such pain and anguish. She had watched as his lips began to fade to a dull purple. She had heard his words of love to her. She had heard his final sentance. She cried as he had whispered, "I'm sorry."

She had asked herself many times why it had to happen. Her own guilt racked her heart. She wondered how fate could have been so cruel to her. After all, fate had let her taste the refreshing, envigorating fruit of love. Her heart had been set free. But how dare fate take him away so soon!

What made it fair? What could have? After all, she finally tasted something she thought was unreachable. Love had filled her being. She felt so alive, so full of energy. Then that day came. He faded from her sight.

He wasn't ever truly gone. Many a times her mind would remind her of her loss. She tried to convince herself and others that she was fine. She tried to tell herself that it wasn't so bad and that life was good still. Something just felt so wrong. She felt his presense near, but yet "knew" he was gone.

Her memories of the past played with her. They brought her such happiness and yet such sorrow. Her heart longed to be where she was now. She wanted with all her being to wake up from the nightmare of him being dead and to be held in his arms. To be far away from the pain of the loss of her beloved was her wish.

What was his last words for her? "I'm sorry." She knew what all he meant by that. She knew that he was sorry for the tragedy that had unfolded. He never wanted things to end that way. He wanted to hold her, to comfort her, to remind her of how beautiful she was for the rest of their lives. Their plans seemed to have been cut short with that quick strike. he was sorry he wasn't going to be there to help her through the bad times and rejoice in the good times.

Fate, however, decided it was too cruel a decision to bare. It returned him to her and now their happiness expanded. She knew it was a gift from the mages. Little did she know that it was to be the first of many. They had been given the opportunity to restart their plans and also to start a new quest.

She leaned onto his shoulder. She was very grateful for that opportunity. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. A smile crept upon her face for she was very glad this was not just a memory. She was very happy to feel his heartbeat next to her. She was happy to be caressed by the ne she held so dear. The world had been restored and truly it was good once more.
