Chapter 3

Having trouble sleeping, I got out of bed and proceeded to get dressed. Stepping outside of my inn room, I smelled the fresh night air. The stars were up high and little activity on the streets. Strolling along, I found a gentle wind as my guide. A small smile traced my face.

I sat down on a step and just looked up at the stars. Somehow it was a comfort to me. How could one feel alone under the stars? I know I never could. Was I alove? In some ways, I knew I was, but I still felt close to someone. No, I couldn't say I felt alone. On the other hand, at times I felt so lonely.

Suddenly, I heard some light footsteps. Looking down, I spotted a person who was at the pub earlier today. He nodded towards me and guestered to me asking permission to sit. I nodded and inquired, "Is there something I can do for you?"

The man looked me over and replied, "You look like a stranger in a strange land. A visitor into the heart of darkness soaked city. A journeyman through inferno and I would imagine that there is something I can do for you. If there is something you search, I can point you in the right direction. If there is someone who you are hiding from, I can help you fade into the night."

"What I search for is my past. For whom I seach for is myself. Now, I do have some clues. I have a note that was with me after I regained my conciousness. It stated that I would need to find Maute Nuela. Do you know of that place or thing," I asked of the man.

"Maute Nuela is a mythical place. It is said to be the original home of the seven roses of the mages. If they are returned there, balance of the heart will be the reward of the person who returns it. According to the story, only a very noble person can find the roses and return them to their garden. Do you wish to find this place," the man inquire of me.

"I do not have much money and would not be able to pay you the proper due for a guide. So, alas, I would love to try and find this place as I was suggested to find by the note when I can gather enough for your fee," I informed the man with a sigh. "Who suggested that you find it," the man asked. "A person who signed the note as Robert," I told him. I watched as his eye brows moved up his face.

He stood up. "Alex, there is no price for you. We didn't know that you had escaped," he told me. "You know me," I asked wanting to know how he knew my name. I hadn't told him or anyone else in this town my name and yet he knew it. "I only know you briefly, but there are others who know you better. I shall take you to your hourney to Maute Nuela tomorrow. There you'll learn more. I've been waiting for this day for years. Much joy this brings," he said with a smile on his face.

He offered his hand to me. I took it and stood up. "Since you know my name, it is only fair for me to know yous," I commented. "But of course! My name is Christopher Lee, but you can call me Chris," he told me. I smiled. "Then I shall see you tomorrow, Chris," I replied. "Tomorrow, We'll meet here. Until then, safe journey," Chris told me. "Safe journey," I replied turning towards my inn room.

I could feel him leaving. I turned towards where he was and heard his footsteps slowly diminishing intot he darkness of night. "Zachre, amil," a voice whispered into my ears. "Chris, you still here," I asked out towards the darkness. Silence was my only answer. I shrugged it off and laid back down to bed. Slowly, I drifted to sleep.
