The Sadness I Sing
By Nathan Albright (2001)

The sadness that I sing
Comes from a heart
That has been rejected
Far too many times
For me to feel happy
About love and romance.
The sadness I sing
Comes from this sad heart,
And it, both a warning
Of my deep suffering
And a manifestation
Of my will to overcome
The pain and grief I face
And of my desire
To let it be of service
To those whom I know.
The sadness I sing
Is the grief of a heart
Battered since I first gave breath
On this sad planet,
So let it be a lesson to you
As it is a sorrow for me.
