Hope For The Future

Chapter 1

The city of West Maue used to have children running through the streets. There used to be vendors selling food, balloons, and drinks. A happy cheer was common in the past. The sun used to shine brightly in the morning and midday. Kids would run down the street trying to outrun the evening rain that was coming.

As darkness would arrive, one could hardly walk down the avenues without feeling hunger. The smell of excellent dinners would last for hours. When the last sweet smell would waft away, slowly the house light would dim and occasional snores heard.

A little boy would be tucked in and a kiss from both mom and dad applied to her forehead. Mom and dad would go to sleep and the night pass. As morning came, the boy opened his eyes and smelled breakfast. "Lufue, breakfast is ready," his mom said. Lufue woke up and slowly walked down to the breakfast table. After a long and talkative breakfast, Lufue got ready for school and walked out the door. His parents watched him leave proudly. They knew he had a bright future. After all, he had the second best grades in the entire region. What also impressed them was the fact that he never got jealous of the person who had the best grades in the region. The pressure to be number one never met up with the young boy. Lufue never boasted about his status of number two. He lover to learn and had much charm. As Lufue started to grow up, he found luck with many friendships. Using his charm, intelligence, and wisdom, Lufue became an important part of the city of West Maue. His parents were proud to see him as mayor of the town. Under his guidance, the city grew and prospered. There were proposals to even add a statue to the city in the middle of the town square made of precious Ioanium. The mayor tried to veto it several times, but alas the people ended up winning. A huge parade was done. Schools were let out for the day. It was an unofficial holiday when the statue was unveiled. All celebrated when the covering was taken off. Lufue looked over the statue and cried tears of joy. He knew that the statue was a sign of the happiness of the people. Out of his personal money, he had a statue made of Ioanium that had a man, a woman, and two kids holding a metal banner that said, "Welcome to West Maue. Home of the Free and the Happy". Government was well run and corruption vanished. What he did, people from around the whole planet would marvel about if they had heard. The people never bragged about their success. News did travel to the leader of New Fullerium.

One fine day while Lufue was in his office signing off on paperwork, a knock came on the door. "Come in," Lufue said. A young lady came in and sat down on the chair. "Lufue Zue, my name is Janice Blackwell and I have been sent from the New Fullerium government. I have some to ask you to be a senator for the government," she told him. Lufue Zue smiled. "I would be honored to serve," he told her. He knew it would be hard news for the city, but he felt it was his duty to make his city proud of his accomplishments. He wasn't just mayor, but he was the beloved child of the city. Never before had anyone from the city move on to a higher position.

The next day he assembled the city and let them know of the news. There was both joy and sadness in the news. The people were proud to see him move up in power, but sad to lose their mayor. Lufue Zue was never the best public speaker, but the words he tried to comfort them with made the people realize how much he would miss them and keep them in his heart. He told them, "The times I enter this city in the future my heart will remember all the great times I had here. I will cry tears in remembrance of the joy you have given me. I will not and can not, nor would I want to, purge the honor of being raised in this great city, the city of West Maue." Little did he know it would be many years before he would even get a chance.

The people didn't forget him. They had a new mayor who kept the practices of his predecessor. West Maue watched as Lufue Zue rose from a senator to the leader of the senate. As leader of the Senate, he didn't forget his old town. He helped the city by glorifying the city and with an official highway to and from the city to all the major cities. Before then, no one considered West Maue as a major city. Hardly anyone outside New Fullerium considered it a major city ever.

The city rejoiced at the news of Lufue's engagement. The whole city of West Maue traveled to the capital to watch the marriage. It was one of the biggest events in New Fullerium history. The Marshal saw this and decided that he did need Lufue as the second in command. The Marshal made the announcement two weeks later that Lufue Zue, former mayor of West Maue, would be the new Chief of Staffs. The nation of New Fullerium rejoiced and prospered with the aide of Lufue. No one knew what was to come. No one could have guess the hope for the future of New Fullerium was born in a city that most people would never think of visiting. Maybe that is just the way it is.
