Hope for the Future

Chapter 2

Chief of Staffs Lufue Zue cried the day that the Marshal was killed. The nation mourned the death of a great man. Lufue Zue declared a week of mourning. Little did he know the mourning had just begun. No one knew how exactly the Marshal had been killed. Rumors flew around. Lufue even stepped down to prove he had no yearning for the position. He went home and cried with his wife over the enormous loss. Their grief was inexpressible. The Marshal had done many good works for the nation and the Zue family. The Marshal was almost part of the family - that's how close they were. They even had several gifts from the Marshal on display prominently in their home.

Unfortunately, not all thought that Lufue's intentioned were good. Several senators blamed the event of Lufue. So much so that they demanded that he not even show his face in the senate. That just made it rougher for Lufue. He went into a deep depression and spoke very little. The only comfort he had was his wife. His wife kept by his side through all the accusations and hate that flew their way. The city of West Maue didn't forget him, but they were in their sorrow of the loss of the Marshal. They seemed to be locked in the same depression. Lufue became a prisoner in his own home.

The nation was struggling on how to deal with the loss. Government was struggling with how to move on. Some senators wanted elections to be called. Some senators wanted to appoint a new Marshal and a new Chief of Staffs. Factions began to form. Senate meetings became debate forums at their best times. At the worst times, wrestling was considered a nice act. The nation soon fell into the same pattern. Some mayors fled into other areas. Police forces began to struggle to keep the peace. Thieves and pirates began to plague the land. The people cried out for leadership and for help, but no one was there to listen.

The nation yearned for hope. They yearned for the Marshal to be back, but it would not be. The nation fell into anarchy and the nations around them started to hear of it. A servant from the Secfenia Star Empire was one of the people who heard about it. The servant came into the Emperor's throne room. "Your majesty, I bring news from New Fullerium," the servant said. "What news," the Emperor asked. "The nation is disorganized and their land could be partially taken with ease," the servant said. "Excellent! As soon as the Directrix moves in, he'll be pleased. You have done well. I promote you to be admiral for the force to claim our land back," the Emperor said with a grin. "Yes, your majesty. I must hurry and reclaim it for the Empire," the servant responded as he left the throne room. "That Andrew has a lot of potential," the Emperor commented.

Admiral Andrew Blackwell went into the army barracks. The men and women of the local army were eating in the mess hall. He walked into the mess hall and took a place at the center of the room. "We, the army of the Secfenia Star Empire, have been called forth to reclaim land once stolen from us. I, Andrew Talius et Blackwell, have been placed in command of this taskforce and been promoted to the position of Admiral. We shall begin our campaign tomorrow morning," the Admiral informed the army. After his announcement, everyone went back to eating and the Admiral left. He took his new office and laid down to sleep. He knew he would need it. After their meal was done, the army prepped for their chore the next day. Working together, it only took them a few hours.

The cities of the western border of New Fullerium went through their normal activities without any hint or knowledge of what was to come. Children were tucked into bed. The silence of the night encompassed the cities and their sleep started. Little did they know that their last night of "normal" sleep would be the day before.

The admiral came into the army barracks very early in the morning. He had the morning horns blew. The military knew that was their battle call. They quickly got ready and lined up in position. "In this battle today, we shall expand our glorious nation and all of you shall inherit the spoils of the land in equal portion with the Empire. Today, we shall bring our enemies to their knees begging us to stop," the Admiral smiled and instructed the battle to begin.

The quiet morning air was broken by the sounds of the army slaughtering the sleeping people. Slowly, but surely, city by city fell in the morning darkness. As daybreak approached, the army approached near the Muria River. The people were awake and the people on the outskirts of the town ran into town and rang the town bell. The locals tried to fight against the army to the best of their ability. Many, many lives were lost from both sides. The army ended their forward movement and returned home. The Admiral was in a good mood. He would be able to return to the Emperor with good news. He helped the nation grow and his aid would be very appreciated. His service would be remembered well.
