Maute Nuela (Part II)

Chapter 3

April opened her eyes feeling a few leaves land on her hair. She yawned softly and looked around. Robert was there by her side. He had apparently fallen asleep lying on her shoulder. He wasn't the only one who had drifted though. She didn't know how long she had been asleep.

She looked around trying to get refamiliar with where she was at. They were sitting on a bench in some soft of garden. She knew it looked familiar, but through the morning fogginess, she was having a hard time figuring out where. Didn't she come here on a voyage? Didn't she remember the trip here?

It dawned on her where she was. They had went to the garden in Maute Nuela. They had went there because he thought there might be more answers there. She wasn't so sure, but she wasn't going to argue with being able to spend time with him. Not after everything that had happened. Besides, she felt like he knew something, but couldn't quite grasp it.

She could hear him breathing softly and slowly. He was so peaceful. He was so cute in his sleep. She knew how much he trusted her. One does not fall asleep in the arms of another person unless you trust them or have no other option. She knew he had plenty of other options. They had been holding each other. They hadn't meant to drift into sleep. It had just happened.

She kissed his forehead and smiled. She could tell how comfortable he was. "I love you, Robert," she whispered. "May our journey together never separate us again. I don't want that again. I've told no one of the emotions of separation. I don't want to ever have to," she commented in a hushed voice.

Letting her hands caress his face, she watched his face slowly show a smile. He was still asleep, but she could feel the warm emotions flowing through his body. She could tell that he knew she was there. Since she was there, it only made him happy and more comfortable. She tried to be careful not to wake him. She didn't want to disturb the peace that he was experiencing.

April felt so close. She felt so much, but how can one describe the feeling that flow through someone in love? No matter how often it's been tried, it fails to describe it fully. She had read so much and she knew that the authors who tried never quite explained it well enough. How could they? Some of them had never experienced it at all. Some of them had been toyed with. Some of them who had gotten a glimpse of it had it snatched away. Those who did have it wrote so little in comparison that they were often ignored and they never claim to be able to express it fully.

She had occasionally written odds and ends trying to express her feelings. Her poetry, her writings were filled with emotions and passion that most would never dare to express. However, no one got to see them. They tended to be hidden from the world. For she was never satisfied with them. Could one blame her? After all, she tended to be her own worst critic.

She remembered one time when she talked with Robert about their writings. She remembered how he had told her that he used to destroy a number of his works. After a bit, she talked him into showing her some of them. They were pretty good, but he never thought so. She had convinced him to at least not destroy them as she would like to read them. He began to show her some of the writings that he came with and she was very pleased. He cared a lot about what she thought.

He snuggled closer to her. She held him tightly and he purred in response. She remember in her earlier days that she was told that she would never be able to find someone like him. She was told several times that she would never experience love. In these dark days, love was not something that came easily. The world was harsh. If you didn't have money, you were looked down upon by those who did have money.

How could she, a poor girl from Fenia, ever end up with the son of one of the wealthiest men in the world? His family had at one time controlled all the land on the continent. Over time, his father had given up over two-thirds of it to the people. His father was well loved. His father's wealth was amazing. There were few's fortune who could ever compare to it.

Her parents and those around hadn't quite realized this. If they had, they would have surely said there was only one reason why she cared for him - the possibility of money. After all, several people thought that one should only date to improve one's social status. It was a dark world. Money was what mattered to most people. Finding true love, what did it matter to most?

How many times had people told her that it was completely pointless to have interest in Robert? After all, to them he must have been very poor. Many thought he was even poorer than her. She knew the truth, but she told no one as she had promised. People only knew his first name and that's the way he liked it.

She stared at him asleep holding her tight. "Thank you," she said letting her hands slowly comb through her hair. She knew what she had was very special. She knew that this was something that she had been told for many years she would never get. Now she had it and she knew she wasn't going to let go of it. She couldn't. It had been ripped away, but she wasn't going to let that happen again if she could help it.

She closed her eyes and held him. She listened as her breathing was in sync with his. Letting her mind slowly drift, she feel asleep once again. They were together united on the bench holding each other sleeping. The wind seemed to tuck them in and the weather was still.

As they slept, little creatures began to play around them. Life had suddenly returned to the garden. They had been freed from the prison of no visitors. They had been freed from the breathe of death. The city had their most frequent visitors back and the city was very happy.
